The apartment complex was ultra-modern and sleek. I was somewhat still disoriented to the abrupt change. Myself, mom and my sister looked up on the enormous building. My father was missing or had not yet arrived. My family was perfectly familiar but not the current family I possessed in the waking world. But it was the body that was unfamiliar. A new form, different from what I knew but memories of what had been was absent from mind.
We somehow knew where our new residence was located. Upon arriving we searched for something we needed to find to determine . . . ?
There was a wall hanging in the dining room that seemed completely out of place. I pealed back layer after layer of paper to find the monitor hidden below its disguise. A 3-D head emerged from the screen to explain that Father was coming and arriving soon. We had come from another place—world maybe? Because of who we had been, we had special abilities different from the humans here. We needed to blend in and stay concealed. We needed to learn how to be human.
It was disconcerting to be in such a new place, but the concept that we were beyond human form and indestructible lent strength and courage to face the challenges ahead and try to adapt.
My sister was fascinated with her new body and showing me all the things she could do. I was different but came to realize those differences were due to the sexual characteristics of the human form. I was male. These differences were absent to us previously, but I could not recall what form we inhabited before.
A new life—a human life.
